Why It’s Good to be Kind to Yourself

Kindness is a quality that is worth practicing. It can help others when they need it the most along with being able to promote positive action. It is also worth practicing this same type of kindness to ourselves since we deserve happiness. Today we want to talk about why it's so important to do this and some practical ways to do so.

It's a Form of Self-Care

Kindness and self-care often go hand-in-hand and for good reason too. It's one of the best ways to show that you love yourself and it also promotes happiness too. A good example of this is doing something that you enjoy. Taking time to relax and do a hobby or leisurely activity can help build up the habit of resting. Breaks are important since they allow us to make the mental space needed to recover after a long day of schoolwork. Taking time to eat right and get enough sleep are some other ways for us to be kind to ourselves. These are our basic needs and sometimes they can go by the wayside when we feel that we are too busy. Knowing when to take a step back to see how our minds and bodies are doing can help us practice this type of self-care.

Another reason why kindness is worth practicing is that it helps you value yourself. This is good to remember because there are times when we may question our worth. When we're in doubt we need to close our eyes and remember that we matter and deserve love.

Kindness is the catalyst for understanding. This is primarily because it allows us to form the building block known as empathy. Empathy is crucial since it gives us the ability to step outside and put ourselves in someone else's shoes. A good way to find the value in this is looking back to your own life. Everyone has been treated with kindness from their family given that they've raised you into the person you are today. The same kind of care can also be seen with our friends as well who are there for us when we need someone to talk to. These acts of kindness demonstrate that there is a lot of good out there in the world, and the same way that others treat us with love and respect is why we need to do that for ourselves.
