Project-Based Learning

Finding new and unique ways to learn is essential to improving both in school and in life. One such way to do so is with something called project-based learning which emphasizes practicality. Today we want to discuss this approach and see it can benefit you in your life.

What is Project-Based Learning?

Project-based learning is a combination of several different things. It can be defined as a type of student-centered learning that focuses on gaining knowledge by helping them solve real-world problems and situations. One of the core benefits of this approach is that it does a good job of empowering students to do things that can help them in their lives. With students at the forefront for project-based learning, this ideally will let them be able to develop their own skills both within individualistic and group-centered settings. Given the practical nature of this, it allows students to tackle issues we may be facing in our daily lives and find reasonable solutions to them together.

Where Can This be Applied?

While on paper this sounds like a great method of learning, where and how can this be applied? Some of the core ideas behind project-based learning involve building a plan along with the actionable steps associated with it. For instance, if we are trying to tackle a social issue regarding hunger within the community, we need to draft up ideas first to make it something we can work on. This requires many students working together and using a combination of everyone's talents to solve these problems. Not only does a plan need to have sound reasoning but it also needs a good culture and environment behind it to back it up. Your school is one of the best places to integrate this type of learning as there are many individuals who are bound to have similar interests in problem-solving. Community centers are another great avenue to do this as there are many ways that they can benefit from creative thinking and teamwork. Even within your career, there are many moments where we can take the initiative to solve something that may need attention even when we aren't necessarily in a leadership position. All it requires is a willingness to create change and a group of people who want to do the right thing.

Why Does it Matter?

Tackling issues both within our lives, our community, and the world is needed for personal development and for making the world a better place for everyone. This learning approach recognizes that we need to take active steps toward improvement and integrate personal responsibility with our planning and actions. Self-reflection and analyzing what works is a key part of this learning style and using that efficiently can help you make the right decisions. With schools integrating this into group activities, we can expect project-based learning to become more common in classes. An open and flexible mind can help us make the most out of this approach as it can make a difference in many areas.
