Practicing Mindfulness And Peace

There are many moments in our lives where we may feel some form of distress. Whether that be due to circumstances within our control or outside of it, we need to take action for our own health. Two ways we can do that are by integrating mindfulness and peace into our lives. Let's take some time to discuss how to practice these.

Understanding Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a concept that often shows up within meditation. The overarching idea behind mindfulness is that it allows us to be aware of our thoughts and feelings in the moment. Given that it keeps us grounded in the present, there are many benefits to mindfulness. It can help us handle any issues we may be experiencing in our academic or personal life in a gentle and understanding manner. Part of being mindful involves having self-introspection to know when things aren't working out. This can apply to our studying habits. For example, if you feel that studying alone hasn't been producing good results, you can opt to take some time to reflect and see if you require a study group to help with this. If you feel that you need to take time to decompress after a difficult test, sitting down and doing a mindfulness meditation can make it easier on the mind and body.

Practicing Peace

One idea that also ties into mindfulness is the idea of peace. We can define peace as “a state of tranquility or freedom from disturbance.” Common examples of conflict can occur with our grades, or rather our expectation of what our grades “should” be. While it is good to want to have high academic standards, this can more often than not cause grief. Instead of expecting to get an A on every test, a much healthier way of looking at this would involve being mindful of how you think you'll do. Being process-oriented can be useful as it can give you a tangible way of managing stress related to school. Practicing peace can be done in many ways. Changing our perspective is a great means of doing this as it doesn't require anything external. Being flexible is another way as it can let us see new means of doing new tasks. Peace is a state of mind and our actions can help reflect that.

They Promote Harmony

Allowing yourself the space to grow is needed as they are crucial for your well-being. Mindfulness and peace both promote a sense of harmony with the mind, body, and spirit. Finding the time to relax is crucial, not just for our time but for our health. Balancing time for these activities can be as simple as taking 5 minutes out of the day to practice being still and quieting the mind. This can help thoughts flow naturally without the worry of outside factors. Gradually shifting our mindset and routine to include these may take time but it is ultimately worth it as it can drastically improve the quality of our lives.
