Happiness And Staying Social

Taking care of our social well-being is a core part of our happiness. Taking time for ourselves is healthy and it's good to balance this with feeling connected in the grand scheme of things. School is a great environment to help promote this since we're near our peers most of the time. Being social comes with a wide variety of benefits and today we want to talk about how this is tied to our happiness.

Being Social Gives Us Support

In some of the most challenging moments in our lives, one thing that allows us to flourish is having others by our side. A good friend group makes you feel good for being who you are and recognizes all the things that make you unique. A healthy support system celebrates who we are and is happy to have us around. Building a good social network takes time and effort but the results are worth it tenfold. It takes a conscious effort to be social and for some people, it comes more naturally than others. Like many things though, it's a skill and it's possible to improve it so we handle things with poise and grace more easily. A good social group empowers us to do the right thing and makes us feel better for simply being.

It's Consistent

Making an active effort to spend time with friends is a good habit to do since it can make us more consistently happy. Weekly events are common in friend groups and this can be seen via extracurricular activities or clubs that students participate in. These allow students to try out new things while also meeting others and making friends in the process. Having an open mind is necessary since it makes us more receptive to meeting people and trying out new hobbies. This type of flexibility can give us the courage to see opportunity along with being willing to mix things up for the sake of our happiness. The important thing about friendships is that similar to a garden, they need to be nurtured to have the best results.

We Need Others

Being social is something that should come naturally to us since we inherently want to feel a sense of community and acceptance with those around us. Yes there are times we want to be alone and that's okay but isolating ourselves often isn't the answer. While life can feel overwhelming at times, we ultimately need people in our lives for many reasons. Others help us discover more about ourselves and give us new perspectives on the world. They can teach us crucial life lessons along with being there as a means of support. Friends are there to be with us during the good and bad and we need each other to get through things. Being social is recognizing the innate human need to belong and when we do that, we're able to show that we truly value our happiness.
