How to Express Frustration

Frustration can be challenging to manage since it can take up a lot of mental space. Thankfully there are ways to help mitigate this and work on it. Today we want to talk about how to do this and why it's important to work on this form of expression.

Exercise

Exercise is a fantastic way to help alleviate and express frustration. One of the biggest benefits to this is that it helps improve your overall physical health which can function as a coping mechanism. Exercise can steer us toward overall better decisions for us as well such as eating food that can empower us along with sleeping on a more routine basis. Two different kinds of exercise include team-based activities and solo activities. Team-based exercise offers a sense of camaraderie with others and gives us the opportunity to be able to make friends with others who have similar interests. It can be a chance to talk to others within your group about life after you're done with an exercise since it can help establish empathy. There are also solo exercises that can give you time to be introspective. Both of these are good since they can help you channel any frustration into a positive activity that is good for your health.

Have a Creative Outlet

Having a creative outlet is another way to express your frustration. Art in general provides a healthy means of being able to put our thoughts down in a tangible manner. A good example of this is freewriting where we can share how we feel free of judgment. The same can also apply for other forms of art as well such as painting or even photography. Simple tasks such as editing a work we've done can give us time to relax and focus on things outside of ourselves while also addressing these feelings we have. Creativity is a great method to decompress and help us find the things we love to do at the same time. Sharing our creative works is another manner in which we can channel expression. Perhaps there's a character within something we write that conveys our thoughts that others can relate to, or a painting that properly conveys our feelings. However you choose to do so just remember that everyone needs a creative outlet.

Meditate

Meditation can help with frustration since it can help us practice self-awareness. Oftentimes when we are upset our emotions can be so rapid that we may not even be aware of how it affects us. This can be tricky since we don't want our frustration to be the cause of actions we aren't okay with. Meditation can alleviate these feelings of frustration since it gives us the means of being able to slow down our thoughts. Taking the time to focus on our breathing while also acknowledging how we feel can build up this internal mindfulness. When we are okay with how we feel, we can express ourselves that much better within our daily lives.
