Zoom’s New Update And Its Future Impact

Zoom has helped revolutionize how students, teachers, and parents view education. There have been many wonderful memories that have come from this online platform and with a new update adding more features, we're excited to see what's in store! Today we want to talk about some of these new additions and the positive impact they will have!

Focus Mode

Finding ways to stay on top of class sessions is important which is why the new “focus mode” feature is one that we are extremely excited about. This mode specifically allows the host to see videos and profile pictures from everyone else even the video feature is off. This is good as it streamlines the process so that there aren't multiple video feeds at the same time from several users. For teachers, this means that they have better access to helping each individual student with questions related to assignments. The host is able to switch between multiple shared screens to best help each student with the proper amount of time. For students, this means that there are fewer distractions during a class session and each can dedicate their attention to the teacher without much issue. Student engagement matters and we hope that this can allow both students and teachers to make the most out of their class sessions.

Changing How we See The Waiting Room

The waiting room for Zoom acts as a place for students to mentally prepare before the class session. Typically this features minimal interaction but with the new update, Zoom is adding the ability to view videos within the waiting room. Teachers can use this in many different ways to help make the learning process more intuitive. Before starting a lesson, there can be an introductory video showcasing some of the different concepts for the class. This is good as it gives everyone time to arrive while also being efficient with time. Sometimes a teacher may require a bit of extra time to prepare for the lesson which makes this type of approach all the more practical. Instead of simply waiting for the host to allow access into the room, there is an audio and visual portion to help prepare for the day which is both fun and helpful.

Quality of Life Tweaks to Make Learning Fun

Learning is something that should ultimately be fun which is why Zoom takes extra steps to ensure that everything works properly. Some other helpful features from this update include being able to use video playback directly within the Zoom app. Students are able to send and receive files within the Zoom chat to further increase engagement. Something as simple as requesting a video link from a PowerPoint presentation can help add to the overall feel of the classroom environment and make it easier for each side. Post-meeting surveys were also added which can be used to get feedback on how a classroom session went. All of these different features help to improve the day-to-day experience and can bring a new wave of positivity and fun to the classroom!
