Why Your Friends Matter

Being capable of doing things on your own is a good thing since it teaches you independence. It's also equally as important to have a healthy social network. Our friends are one of the best examples of this since they're by our side throughout our lives. Today we want to talk about why our friends matter.

They Care About You

As people, everyone wants to feel that they are cared for and our friends are one of the best examples of this. A good friend helps us know that we're valued by encouraging us to take steps that are good for our well-being. This can be seen when we go to them for advice about things. Honesty is one of the best qualities when it comes to this since it demonstrates that your friends are comfortable expressing how they truly feel around you. This same sort of honesty extends to you as well. Being around the right kind of people who allow you to be yourself is essential since it helps promote this kind of authenticity. Love and care are good for friendships since we want others to know that we're there for them the same way they are for us.

They Spend Time With You

Trust is a core part of relationships and this can only come after spending enough time with people. A great example of this is being able to have open and honest dialogues with others. Sometimes we may not always be in the best of moods and simply talking with people about it can help open the gateway towards trust. Being around others can help lift your mood simply by being there. When we're with our friends we may find it easier to shake things off such as stress and anxiety since we're around people that we're comfortable with. Our friends can also spend time with us doing the things we love. Hanging out with friends while we're watching a movie or playing a game is a great way to bond with others. This signals that we're okay doing things we care about with others and that we're happy being able to share those experiences.

They Teach You About Yourself

One of the last big reasons why friends are important is that they help teach you about yourself. There are many instances where we may not understand why it is we don't always click with people. It can be something such as not agreeing with what their stance on something is, or it could simply be that you don't mesh well. This is good to keep in mind because good friends help you learn more about who you are and what you stand for. One example of this can happen when we get into an argument. Some people can express themselves better for things which can help you see multiple perspectives. It's good to remember that our own viewpoint isn't infallible and that having people there to help you see this are worth being around.
