Why we Need to Make Time For Fun

Life is more than simply accomplishing our goals, it's about finding ways to have fun and find meaning within the enjoyment that we have. Yes, we need to have a sense of discipline with our responsibilities, but that doesn't mean we can't have fun in the process! There are so many reasons why we need to make time for this and here are a few of them.

Leisure Represents a Large Part of Your Life

Here's a fun exercise. Let's think for a moment how much of your life is represented by sleep. The common answer most people would say is at least a third of your life. School and work are in a similar camp with both of them representing at minimum another third. Now the interesting thing here is that chances are, a good portion of our time outside of these three things is probably being spent on some form of a hobby, interest or simply doing something fun. While this falls more under the lines of a thought exercise, the idea is that we're usually very invested in fun and entertainment in more ways than we think. Sports, movies, video games, books, and the arts all fall under leisure in some shape or form. Whether we're passively enjoying something or actively participating, leisure does in fact represent a large part of our lives.

How You Spend Your Free Time is Important

It's not just about the amount of time we put into something, but how it's spent can be extremely important. It's worth thinking about how we enjoy our hobbies. Some hobbies are best spent with careful research before diving into them. Others are more easy to pick up and learn. Even with the more accessible entertainment options out there, time management still plays a role. Planning out your free time by having a loose schedule can make a world of difference. When it comes to having fun with friends this can often be a necessity since everyone has different schedules and responsibilities. Small reminders or using a notes app can make it easier to reference since it allows us to figure out our week and take things day by day.

Making The Process of Doing Something Fun

Even with some of the things that might feel less fun, we can still make the process itself enjoyable. If we know we have to study for something within a short time frame and we aren't feeling the best, we can still opt to play some music to get ourselves in a better mindset. If we know we need exercise but are struggling with motivation, we can reframe how we look at it and take it as an opportunity to go for a meditative walk and immerse ourselves in nature. Our mindset matters and when it comes to fun we should be looking for multiple ways to be engaged with what we're doing.
