Prioritizing Your Passions

Having people and things you care about can lead to a fulfilling life. In the busyness of our modern-day world, our passions can fall by the wayside with all the responsibilities we have to do. Being able to balance your time is a core skill that we learn while growing up and some time needs to be given to enjoyment as well. Prioritizing your passions is something we all need to do since it gives us the courage needed to persevere.

Set Time Aside

Simply put, we need to put in the effort to make time for what we care about. Some days we might feel a bit more tired than usual and that's okay. We don't want to always force ourselves to have fun since it can diminish the value of it. With that in mind, establishing a habit is something that takes time to build and it's easy to find reasons not to do things. To avoid this we need to be consistent with our efforts since things such as writing a book takes work over a large period of time. Time is our most valuable resource and it needs to be invested in the things and people we're truly passionate about. The only way we can do that is by learning how to best manage it and following through with these things.

Be Okay With Saying No

We can't do everything on a given day and that's okay. Sometimes we need to say no. This can be difficult since we might be worried we're hurting someone else's feelings or giving up on something. This isn't the case though and we can't be expected to say yes to everything we hear. Being able to make your own decisions is both necessary and empowering. Saying no doesn't have to be difficult. When we do it, we need to remind ourselves that we matter too and we need to care about how we spend our time. It can be a form of self-care by giving yourself days to focus on your passions without worry.

Learning When to Move on

Time is valuable and so is the effort you put into something. Certain things are worth putting more time into than others and it's largely a result of how intrinsically things motivate you. Sometimes though there are things we think we might be passionate about that don't pan out. Not every passion has to be permanent and that's okay! There shouldn't be an expectation to stick with something simply because you've done it for a long time. Passions should evolve alongside you and if they don't then we can reflect on the value they gave us. Creative passions should be something you look forward to since they function as an outlet. Friendships should make you feel better by being in them. When the scales are too leaned in the wrong direction, it's okay to move on and find passions that make you excited to take on the day.
