How Teachers Can Promote Happiness

Teachers have a profound impact on their students and one such way they do that is through emotion. Being able to properly convey thoughts and feelings in a constructive way can foster an air of positivity in the classroom. Today we want to take some time to discuss how teachers can promote happiness.

Being a Role-Model

It can be hard to find a good role-model. There are many different people students are exposed to in pop culture or even on a local level and it's important for them to have a good source of inspiration. A great way to promote happiness would be for teachers to adopt that sort of role-model position in the classroom. Some good ways to do this would involve leading by example. This can be done with a combination of actions and words. Sharing how you view things can be good as it can help give context as to why you feel the way you do. Encouraging students to think for themselves is another great means of being a role-model as teachers ultimately want them to stand on their own. Taking initiative is another way to be a good role-model as it shows that students can find the courage to take the first step towards greatness.

Promote Honesty

There's a common saying known as “honesty is the best policy” and this holds true when it comes to happiness in the classroom. A good means of promoting happiness involves being transparent about your actions along with the lesson at hand. Letting students know that something may be worth doing extra studying for can be good as it shows that you care. Honesty is also helpful as it keeps the line of communication open. This is good as a student may be struggling with certain aspects in their lives. Having an adult there to help out for this is good as mental health matters when it comes to academic performance. Emphasizing honesty is a great thing as all it takes is a little bit of receptiveness.

Make Fun a Priority

Teaching can be challenging as many different concepts need to be covered in a class session but there are always ways to make it more fun. Part of promoting happiness in the classroom requires bringing with it a sense of enthusiasm and whimsy. Some good ways to do this are to express genuine interest in the lesson plan and find ways to make it fun and engaging. This can range from having students act out various scenes in a story or having group sessions for classwork. Other ways to incorporate more fun include activities that go beyond traditional class lessons such as adding fun videos that are relevant to the topic at hand or more technology-based learning. Different assignments can convey lessons in interactive ways that are related to skillsets covered in the classroom. It's important to realize that every student is different and it's equally important to have a fun classroom environment to promote engagement.
