Time Management

These unprecedented times have brought many changes to our everyday lives. From one day to the next, our routines have changed since that of when we were back at school. From getting ready to go to school to waking up five minutes before class begins. High school students have been one of the many that have been faced with the transition from going to school to remote live learning. Although this is for the safety of all students, the struggle to pay attention and focus on remote live learning has been a challenge for many students. Instead of focusing on the negatives of the current situation, we should begin to create new habits that would allow us to improve and adapt the best we can without it coming in the way of our education. One of the ways we can do so is by practicing time management.

Getting started

Beginning to practice time management will never be perfect, last minute assignments or plans may arise and that is to be expected, but it is best to plan for what you know. The first step to better your time management skills is to begin with organizing your current and future events. Depending on your preference, invest in an agenda or a calendar. Begin by writing down any important future dates, such as exams and homework due dates. If you have any weekend plans write that down too! By being able to visualize it, you will be able to see the amount of time that you have to complete or prepare for your next event/assignment. Once you have everything planned out, you will be able to plan out your days accordingly to meet your deadlines!

Taking advantage of your time!

Planning your day out and writing important dates on your agenda/calendar is one thing but another part is actually doing it. During this quarantine, it has become easier to procrastinate but as school begins it’s best to slowly break the habit and begin to take advantage of the time that you have. Time management will never be perfect but you should take advantage of your time and slowly begin to create a new routine that works for you. This is a drastic change from what many students have been practicing throughout quarantine but it’s best to begin transitioning to a new routine before the school year begins.

Making time for yourself

Once the school year begins even with proper time management, it may seem that at times school work may pile up or may be too much. One of the positive outcomes to proper time management is that most things either school or work- related, unless last minute should not be time-consuming, depending on how you schedule your days. Although this may be the case, it is important to remember when planning out your days to leave room for yourself. Whether it’s through breaks or specific hours of the day, remember to relax and take a breather! Leave time for the small things that make your day and that you enjoy doing.
