Discovering What You Enjoy

Life is a journey filled with self-discovery. Many of us may not know what fuels us with motivation at first and that is okay. Learning about what it is that we enjoy can take time. Today we want to talk about why this process matters along with some practical ways to help us find out what it is that we enjoy.

Write Down What You Spend Your Time on

A simple yet effective way to help us find out what we enjoy is by writing down what you spend your time on. While this isn't always the case, a good amount of our time we spend on our hobbies can be an indication that we enjoy doing them. A good example of this is spending time on something creative. For many of us, a creative outlet can help us step outside of our heads and channel that energy into something constructive. Things like this can take a while to achieve our desired result which is why it's helpful to see how much time we sink into them. There are also other activities that we do a lot because we've already put a lot of time into them and might feel obligated to continue. This is known as the sunk-cost fallacy and recognizing this is important. Just because we do something a lot doesn't necessarily mean it's good for us, such as browsing social media for the bulk of the day. Writing things down allows us to condense on the things we do to give us more time to find what we enjoy.

Research What's Out There

Researching what is available is another great method of discovery. This is one of the easiest methods to do since all it requires is setting aside some time to learn about what is out there. A good way to do this is to see what is available in your local area or school. Chances are that there are community events that will let you meet new people. Seeing what is out there in places such as your own school can guide you toward doing the things that truly make you happy. For some, it's as simple as doing a quick internet search and for others, we can opt to ask people we know what they do for fun. Regardless of the method, research can pay off in many ways.

Actively Seek Out New Experiences

In order to truly discover what you enjoy, you need to actively seek out new experiences. Mentality is a key element when it comes to this since the best way to discover something new is to have an open mind. Flexible thinking can be one of the most liberating feelings since it allows you to see things from different angles. This is crucial when it comes to discovery since it depends on us having an active desire to try new things. Being proactive with our actions is essential because it helps both our mind and body form a state of cognitive consonance. This effectively means that they are in harmony. Discovering what you enjoy is the key to a happy life since it can help us find value in the things that we do.
