How Less is More Can Help us

Something that a lot of us fall into is the idea that doing more or getting more things can make us happy. While there is a sense of satisfaction in making the most out of our day or feeling a sense of extrinsic motivation with all the stuff we have, it can be fleeting. Another way to look at things is by trying a less is more approach. Today we want to look at how this type of thinking can help us.

Less Things Less Stress

Do we own our possessions or do they own us? This question has been asked time and time again and it's extremely important to consider how materialistic the world can be at times. When we own a lot of things we tend to have some sort of attachment to them. Sometimes we might think of how distressed we may be if we lose these things. The key thing here is that our possessions are ultimately objects and tools and the only meaning they have is the one we give them. This is important to remember since we don't need to be surrounded by a lot of stuff to feel validated for who we are as an individual. Sometimes it's worth decluttering and owning less since it can mean less stress for us.

Less Tasks More Time

How much is too much within a given day? Being proactive and accomplishing the things we want to do feels good since it shows a sense of progression but at what point do we say enough is enough? When we do too many things sometimes we might find ourselves ignoring how our body or mind feels. The problem with doing this on a consistent basis is that we might neglect our needs too much which can cause other issues. This can oftentimes be a result of rushing or trying to optimize every aspect of our day. A different way to do things is by picking one task we really want to get done and doing it to the best of our ability. This allows us to reprioritize what it is that we value so we have enough time to work on it.

Less Brings More Quality

Something to consider is quantity versus quality. While can own a lot and do a lot, does the quality of what we're doing and what we own really contribute to our happiness and well-being? Doing less can help us focus on putting out more quality work that we'll feel proud of. Owning fewer things ensures that what we do have makes a genuine difference and improvement in our lives. The same can be said for our social circle as well. Do we have a large friend network with people we barely know? Or would we rather have a group of close friends we can truly be ourselves around? Less is more can benefit us in many ways and it's up to us to see the value that it can provide.
