Creative Ways To Problem Solve

Being able to problem solve is by far one of the most essential skills not just in school but in life itself. Learning how to confidently address new things as they arise can make it a lot easier for us to move past things without feeling as if we're stuck in a particular way of thinking. Today we want to talk about some creative ways to problem solve along with why these methods are effective.

Consider Multiple Perspectives

Oftentimes one of the biggest hurdles we might encounter when trying to problem solve is that we might feel limited with our point of view. Perspective-taking can make a world of difference since it allows us to see things from multiple angles. We can do this by asking someone else what they think of a situation and what they would do to solve it. This is effective since it can help us see another route that we may not have considered. Another example is approaching a problem from a different lens. Looking at things from an ethical, logical, and emotional point of view each has its merit for problem-solving and it can cue us into which one would be the most effective.

Work From The End To The Start

This method can be great for complex tasks since it can help us break down each of the different things required to get to where we want to be. The benefit of starting from the end is that it allows us to go step by step with everything and then see that it doesn't have to be extremely complicated. If finishing college is our goal for example we need to understand each component to get there. Finishing college requires a good GPA, which means putting effort into courses, but to get to our courses we'll need transportation, and to do that we'll need to either carpool or drive. Going further we'd need to ask which college would we drive to on a daily basis, and then we'd ask which college in the area has the majors I'm looking for. While it does sound like a lot to consider, each of these elements plays a role in achieving your goals and can get you from point A to point B much easier.

Returning To A Problem Later

Sometimes one of the best things we can do when it comes to problem solving is knowing when to come back to it. The reason why this is effective is because it allows our mind to make the necessary space to distance ourselves from something so we can come back to it with a new framework. Destressing and taking time to relax can rejuvenate us and make it miles easier to find a better solution. We can also learn things outside of the initial problem through our hobbies or others that might just give us a better method of problem-solving.
