Why It’s Good to Plan Out Your Week

Planning is an incredibly useful life skill that can apply in school and in other areas. Sometimes there's a lot on our plate and it can seem tough to manage. We may feel this way since we're trying to solve everything when it arises. A better approach to this is to have a general outline for your week so you can be more prepared when things happen. Today we want to dive into why it's good to plan out your week and some of the benefits of it.

It Teaches Organizational Skills

Being organized can make many tasks much easier to manage. A great example of this can be something as simple as keeping your room well-maintained. By doing this we have a good idea of where everything is and where to find things. This can also apply to creating a schedule. For a school day, knowing where we need to be at a given time can keep us on track so we aren't late for any classes. Using an alarm is another way we can do this since it appeals to our senses and can help us prioritize things that are urgent. A school planner can be used to let us know which days we need to finish our homework and when we have extracurriculars as well. These small habits slowly add up and can make it much easier to accomplish harder tasks since we can break them down.

Being More Independent

As students, we ultimately want to learn how to be more independent. Planning is an easy way to start doing that since it's something we're able to do on our own. Taking time out of our day to sort through what exactly we need to accomplish for the week takes critical thinking. We need to be mindful of what all of our responsibilities are and then work in tandem with our available time. Planning and time management are two things that we'll use consistently throughout life. Higher education takes things a step further and adds financial planning into the mix. This helps us fund all the things we need and want such as transportation, food, and our courses. The earlier we learn how to become more independent, the sooner we can use planning to set ourselves up for success.

Making Space For Fun

Planning is more than simply using it to accomplish our responsibilities, rather it can help us also make the space needed for fun. Recognizing when we need a break is crucial since if we want to truly be happy, we need to make the process of getting things done sustainably. Vacation is a great example of this since it lets us take a step away from our responsibilities to decompress and reset ourselves. The same can be said for our hobbies as well. Planning out some time for fun can be good because it allows us to spend time with others as well. Making the time for fun should also be a priority with planning since life is meant to be enjoyed!
