Minimalism And How It Helps

Have you ever looked around your room and asked yourself whether you use most of the things you own? Have you ever done the same for your schedule and found yourself doing a lot of busy work for things that aren't furthering your goals? One mindset shift that's worth considering is a minimalistic approach since it can cut down on a lot of things. Let's see where we can apply this.

Less Is More

First things first, let's stop and consider all the things we own. How much of it is really providing value to you? Chances are there are a lot of things we've bought that probably aren't doing much and just sitting in a closet collecting dust. While there isn't anything wrong with this it can act as a sort of wake-up call to help us re-evaluate why we got those things in the first place. Was it because we thought they'd help us or was it a means of simply helping us sort through our feelings? It's okay for the things we own to not help us as much in the future since our values can change over time. Being able to let them go can give us the chance to make space for new things in our life along with helping us feel free. Owning less can also make us appreciate what we do have much more in the process.

Valuing Our Time

Picture this, you just got through a long day of school and you still want to do things that make you feel fulfilled. You might feel tired and it may seem like an effort to do these things as a result so you might take the easy approach and just scroll through social media. While this isn't bad every now and then it's far too easy for this to become a habit for us which can rob us of our time for more important things. Some days it's simply a matter of pushing through tough times in order to do things that bring us joy. On other days we need to take time to rest so we can be more productive later. A minimalistic approach can help us remove the non-mandatory things we do to help us do the things that we enjoy.

Reclaiming Your Priorities

Everyone has different things that they value. Some people might cherish books while others may enjoy games. These are inherently personal to each of us and only we can decide what's worth spending our time and energy on. Being able to ask yourself whether this is still relevant where you are in your life can make it much easier. Understanding what our priorities are can clue us into what's worth putting the effort into and what's worth stepping away from. It could be a social circle that isn't conducive to our well-being that we need to distance ourselves from, or a negative habit that we're trying to get past. Minimalism allows us to build the awareness needed to take care of ourselves.
