Maintaining Our Relationships

In this day and age, life can be very fast-paced. We may find ourselves juggling an increasing number of responsibilities as we get older. This is okay and a natural part of life. One thing to keep in mind is that we need to take care of our relationships with others since those matter. Today we want to talk about some ways to do this and why it's so important.

Make Plans With People

Spending time with people is one of the best ways to maintain our relationships. Sometimes it can be vague when others are free and it can lead to both sides not making concrete plans. Breaking this habit is crucial since we can't be close to others if we don't spend enough time with them. Asking to plan something out and see when someone is free is a great way to help with this. We can play our part in this by finishing what we need to do early in the week so we can have enough time later. Time management is a core part of keeping our social network healthy since we need to be mindful of our own needs as well.

Reach Out First

Being the first person to reach out in our relationships can be extremely helpful. Oftentimes many of us have things going on in our lives and it may cause us to de-prioritize our relationships. Depending on how big of a life change it is, this is understandable. With that in mind, we can't forget the people who helped shape us into who we are. Our family and friends have been there with us in times of need and are there to remind us of all the good things in life. Taking the proactive approach, in this case, is good since it demonstrates that we care about others. Sometimes we simply have to be the ones to reach out first since we may value the relationship more or are more mindful of it. Good relationships treat both sides as equally as possible but sometimes life happens and we need to adapt to things by being the first to reach out.

Help Each Other Out

A healthy relationship recognizes that everyone involved are treated as equals. Part of this involves helping people out when they need it. It can be something as simple as listening to a friend after a stressful day for them. It can also be along the lines of helping them move. Our actions have a profound impact on those around us and we want this to be a source of positivity. When we come from a place of good intentions we help build sincerity and trust within others. We also find it easier to be more authentic with how we value our relationships. Maintaining a relationship is an active effort and both sides need to put in the work for things to be positive. Recognizing what we're capable of contributing is good since it can teach us to take the first step along with being mindful of why we care about others involved.
