When it comes to growing up, part of one’s identity is being a student. Routine Develops Habits

Habits are developed from cues and rewards; a routine is the repeated behavior itself. To establish a routine you need a combination of cues and rewards. Cues are what trigger you to start a routine, a good example of this is doing exercise at a specific time. Rewards are what come from completing the objective, such as eating a protein bar when you’re done with your workout. It is these factors that help develop consistent habits.

Internal and External Rewards

When it comes to studying, or school in general, it might be a good idea to associate it with a cue and reward. The cue would be the time school starts, and the reward could be doing something for yourself. Eventually, you’ll learn to appreciate the internal rewards that comes with school and studying and you won't need the external reward to maintain this habit.

Understanding Which Habits Are Good

We need to also identify which habits are good and which ones can be destructive. It is a known fact that school is stressful, but it is important to keep yourself grounded and do what is best for you. Falling into the wrong crowd or indulging in unhealthy habits is all but rare during adolescent years; this is why it is so crucial to care for yourself and do what is best for you and your future. Take a moment to slow down and imagine your future self and who you want that person to be, then make sure you do what you need to do to become that person. Building beneficial patterns at a young age can set you up for a bright future. While a singular event or thing may not seem impactful in the moment, once it becomes a pattern, it can make a world of difference. Allow yourself to be your best possible self through the use of good habits.
