Controlling Your Emotions

During times of turbulence, our emotions can be high and hard to manage. Everyone experiences this at some point in their lives and that is okay. Finding ways to mitigate how much it affects us along with how much control we have can make all the difference. Today we want to talk about the importance of being able to control your emotions.

A Deep Dive Into Our Feelings

Our feelings can be complicated and they can change depending on the subject we are talking about along with many other factors. These are the emotional state or reactions to something that we may experience either from outside or within. Many times we may not be cognizant of what we are currently feeling and that is okay. When we get into this mindset we need to take time to go within and see how we feel. We can do this by meditating and focusing on the moment. This allows us to examine our thoughts and emotions in a manner that is free of judgment. We can assess how we feel in a situation and ask ourselves how we can make things better. The first part of keeping something managed and under control is understanding it. We need to practice being gentle with ourselves as we make our best decisions and choices when we are calm and collected.

Control And Expression

Control is something that we all seek to exercise in our lives. In some cases, this can be seen with wanting to have influence in different situations. One common area of control that we can work on is controlling our emotions. This isn't to say that we need to always be in control as sometimes things can get to be overwhelming but there is a healthy amount of choice we can exercise. One great way to do this is that when things seem to be escalating is to take a deep breath and examine the situation. Chances are we may feel inclined to react a certain way that may not be constructive. Analyze how you feel and think how that would affect the other person. This is important as expressing these feelings is half of what makes controlling them so important. We want to find positive and constructive ways to do this as we do need to be mindful of how others feel. We need to remember that we live in a world with many people and finding that harmony within is a good thing to do.

Why it Matters

Even in spite of the challenges we may face, we always need to remember to be considerate of the feelings of ourselves and those around us. Emotional conflict, and resolving it starts with ourselves first as we can only truly control how we act and react to things. Recognizing this can give us a sense of empowerment as it reminds us that we do have influence over the direction of our lives. Our emotions affect us in many ways, and being mindful of our actions in relation to them can make all the difference.
