Appreciating The Here And Now

There are many reasons for our minds to be fixated on the future. It can be exciting thinking about all the different possibilities out there such as new people, unique topics to study, and even just new experiences. Putting our attention on the present though can help us find a newfound sense of gratitude that can be self-sustaining. Today we want to talk about why it's so important to appreciate the here and now.

Cherish The Small Things

It's the little things in life that can make a big difference. The present brings with it a lot of great opportunities for change and discovery. It can also offer a lot of smaller things that can eventually be greater than the sum of their parts. Our habits are a great example of this since they comprise many different things that we do that make up our overall routine. Reading a book or playing games with friends is one such way that this applies since they both revolve around things we enjoy. Sitting down on a bench and absorbing the people and nature around you is another small act that can help us value the present. School can also teach us to appreciate this as well. Lunch breaks for example are a nice reminder that we have good food to sustain us and keep our bodies healthy. Learning to find the beauty in the smaller things can give us a better appreciation for the big picture within our lives.

Spending Time With People You Love

A great way to be fully present in the moment is by spending time with the people you love. Our friends and family are some of the most important people in our lives and they are there for us when we need them. Showing them that we care about who they are by being with them and doing activities is a great way to demonstrate gratitude. While we do want to be focused on the present, planning things out so we can be with the people we care about is also good. We can opt to change our routine for a week by trying to get our homework done early so we have enough time for a big event a friend or family member is planning. Knowing how to accomplish our own goals while still making time for our social circle is good because it fulfills a need to belong.

Embrace Gratitude

Behind all of our positive actions lies the driving force of gratitude. If we want to truly appreciate the here and now and everything in between, then we need to embrace an attitude of gratitude. This mentality allows us to focus on all the positive things we currently have in our lives. This can include our health which is the cornerstone of a good life. When we are healthy we can think more clearly and dedicate the proper amount of time towards the things that make us happy. While there are many temporary things we may experience, the present is a gift that is worth cherishing since it is a reminder of everything wonderful in life.
