How COVID Will be Affecting Schools in The New Year

As we approach the new year, COVID-19 is still very much a concern on everyone’s mind. What will school look like during the remainder of the 2020-21 school year? What role will COVID-19 play in 2021? Although no one knows the exact answers to these questions, here are some things we do know.

Health Regulations Are Still in Effect

COVID-19 regulations and protocols differ by district and state, but there's one thing that remains universal, COVID-19 will not be going away during the remaining 6 months of school. Health regulations will still be in place along with the size of classrooms staying significantly reduced. Distancing requirements and masks will be in effect, and social events will be very scarce, if there are any at all. Although the beginning of 2021 sounds dim, we must remember health is the number one priority and our circumstances will get better.

Staying Safe is Still a Priority

At the beginning of the upcoming year, some schools will send surveys to see who wants to return to brick-and-mortar instruction. Some schools already have all their students back to in-person instruction, and may choose to continue this way, while others are following the hybrid model. Like previously stated, the options for schools are numerous and they largely depend on location. While it is uncertain whether requiring students to return to full-time in-person instruction during this school year is realistic, or safe, we do know that schools will continue to offer various options for their students until decisions are made.

Taking Care of Ourselves

While this may affect a large portion of our lives as students, our education will still be available, albeit in a different manner. There are ways to learn remotely and it is up to us to find means to adapt to this in spite of all odds. We are still in the dark about what will happen with schools in 2021, but regardless of what is decided, it is crucial that we: wear a mask, stay safe, and take care of ourselves.
