3 Signs Of Good Integrity

Who are we? This is a question we might find ourselves asking at many different points throughout our lives and there are multiple ways to answer this. One of the defining things we can say about ourselves is our integrity since it determines how we interact with the world. There are a lot of components to integrity and we want to try and break down what some of these are.

Doing The Right Thing

Doing the right thing has been and always will be an important part of our lives. It's the willingness to try and do this despite the challenges we face that define our integrity and who we are as a person. The right thing can look different depending on who we ask. Some commonly agreed things that define this can be looking for a positive outcome while ensuring we're being kind to ourselves and others. It can be a matter of trying to build the best possible life for our families or being authentic to who we are. There's no one answer for what the right thing is since it depends on the context of the situation. For some, it's getting out of a situation whereas for others it's about making the best of the resources we have available. To have good integrity we need to be willing to consider multiple perspectives to do the right thing.

Accountability

We need to be accountable for what we say and do. When we make promises to others we need to keep them since we gave them our word. The good thing about accountability is that it can teach us how to be more aware of how we interact with the world around us. It can keep us level-headed and humble so that we can make better choices in the process. Likewise, it can prevent us from over-committing to things that we may not have the time or skill set to do. An easy way to help with this is by writing down key things that we agreed to do in our notes. Having this as a form of reference ensures that we can look back on it as needed. Being accountable for our emotions also falls under this since it can help us reclaim our personal power by recognizing that we do have control over how we react to things.

Helping Others

While we do have our responsibilities and goals that we want to work towards, someone of good integrity can balance their own needs while still helping others. A good example of this is if we see that someone is hungry we can offer to get them a meal. Small acts of kindness go a long way towards making the world a better place for all of us to live. We have a lot of agency when it comes to this and it's a matter of choosing to take action where most people wouldn't that separates someone with good integrity.
